Project overview
Spotlight X is the second game in Spotlight series, puzzle games in room escape genre. Player needs to find hidden items, open locks and solve puzzles to find the way out.
I led the design of the game from scratch, starting with level design and concept art, finalizing with renders and post-processing. Working with talented @Alina Kazak in the team, we created more than 10 levels for the game.
UI design
User interface was designed in dark and bloody tones to support game narrative. The overall style of the interface was chosen to be less "dirty", more smooth, polished and appealing than in the first game.
Level design
The development of each level begins with level design. Initially, a walkthrough with a list of puzzles is created in text format. Using this walkthrough, the level is then blocked out. At this stage, a crucial step involves setting up the lighting in the scene. It is a good timing to work with light, while there is no distracting textures.
3D design
After level block out is done, modelling and texturing process begins. Levels were developed in Blender 3D and rendered in Eevee, a real-time renderer, that gives them slightly stylized look. After initial renders are made, they are post-processed in Photoshop, where color correction is made, and hints are added.
